Salkantay hike 2 days. Salcantay is the second highest mountain in Cusco – Peru. About 6275. It has a very interesting place in the surrounding area with mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, rivers, lagoons. In this tour, you will visit Humantay Lagoon and Salkantay Lagoon. these places are very beautiful and you will have a great time on the mountain if you have already visited Machu Picchu and you like to explore the mountains this tour is perfect for you. You just need a few personal things to do this hike and the rest we are going to provide you and the best is that you will sleep at our exclusive and private campsite called Quiswarniyoc a unique area to be around and sleeping in the MOUNTAIN SKY HUTS. 

  Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO – HUMANTAY LAKE – QUISWARNIYOC PRIVATE CAMP

After picking up everyone from their respective places or hotel, we left Cusco around 5:45 am to the town of Mollepata by car for 2 hours. Once in Mollepata, we stop to have a delicious breakfast and also pay an entrance fee of 10 soles to the local municipality. Then we continue by car 1 hour more to Soraypampa where we will meet with the muleteers and horse who will take all the luggage, food and the 7 kilos of personal belongings of each hiker which is going give to them in the duffle bags. We start the uphill hike to Humantay lake for 2 hours, When you arrive at the lagoon you will have enough time to explore, photograph the place and the guide will explain all the meaning of the Humantay lagoon. After a couple of hours in the lake, we start going down to Quiswarniyoc exclusive camp for 2 hours to have a healthful lunch. After lunch, you have free time to explore the beautiful area and also if you like more hiking you can go up to Mirador of Salkantay for the panoramic view of the entire region. If you are tired, you can rest in the MOUNTAIN SKY HUST which are the cabins with glass door, inside there is pillows, sleeping pad and the illumination for the night. QUISWARNIYOC PRIVATE CAMP: It is an exclusive camp located at 4000 m, it is a unique camp that has places for short hiking, overlooking the mountains and has waterfalls. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful views of the mountains. The is many llamas at the camp that you can take pictures of them while you explore de area.

DAY 2:: QUISWARNIYOC – SALKANTAY LAKE (4630M) – CUSCO.

The second day of the trek is a little hard because it takes you up to the top the highest point of the whole Salkantay trail to enjoy the fantastic views of the mountains an also you will visit the Salkantay Lake. The cooks will wake you up around 5:00 am with a cup of hot coca tea then you have time to repack and get ready for the nutritious breakfast which serves around 5:45 am. After is time to start hiking up to the highest point of the Salkantay trail which 4630 m that takes from 3 to 4 hours all uphill hike with a regular and slow pace. Once you are at the highest point, you have time to enjoy the mountains, to take pictures and the guide will teach you about the mountain gods also you will be part of the small Andean ritual for the Apus the mountain gods. Then you walk back to Soraypampa for 2.5 hours downhill where you will meet the transportations whois is going to take to Mollepara for one hour for lunch and after two more hours to Cusco by car. you will arrive in Cusco approximately 6:00 pm.

How long does it take the hike for the rainbow mountain?

The way up takes between 1.5 to 2 hours on a regular trail, If you make the same way to return akes like 1.5 hours and if I return through the red valley it takes about 2 hours.

When is the best time to go?

It is a difficult question to answer as Peru has a vast variety of conditions. Best time is Dry season runs from May to November, and this is typically the time that most recommended.

Do I need to bring my passport for this tour?

For the Rainbow Mountain, you do not need to carry any documents, only for emergencies or some unexpected control you can take a copy of your passport.

What type of transportation used?

All the vehicles that we use for this type of tour are the Sprinter Mercedes Benz modern minibusses that have all the documentation required by the national authorities, all the cars are maintained daily to keep them in good conditions and clean, and each vehicle got logged correctly.

Will the altitude affect me?

When traveling throughout the Andes in Peru, some people will suffer some effects of it. If you plan to hike the rainbow mountain, we recommend arriving 2 or 3 days before the start to acclimate and rest or you can do it on the last day of your time in Cusco since that the rainbow mountain is at 5000m.

What can I do to prevent the altitude sickness?

We recommend to be in Cusco at least two days and drink as much water as you can and drink coca tea that can order anywhere you want, you can also prepare it yourself with boiled water and dried coca leaves. At least one day before the tour we recommend eating light food and if you have any medication prescribed by a doctor you can take it and the best thing that you can do is to keep in mind that you will be fine.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. We require a booking deposit of 20 dollars for the Rainbow Mountain; if you cancel the tour 24 hours in advance, you will have the 100% refund, if you do not do it within 24 hours, you will lose the money deposited.

What happens after I make my deposit?

Once we receive the deposit, we confirm your reservation through email sending you all the details about the tour.

Can I go by horse to the Rainbow Mountain?

Yes, you can go by horse to the mountain of colors, you can rent horses directly from the local people that cost between 60 and 80 soles per person.

How long will I stay in the rainbow mountain?

The time that we usually spend at the rainbow mountain viewpoint is about an hour, depends on the group pace and the weather conditions.
